Prayers for Las Vegas, and A Reminder To Seek Him!

Posted on October 2, 2017 in General Ministry, Opinion | 0 comments

The wealth of emotions flowing through most Americans this morning are of deep sadness for the victims of an overnight shooting during a concert in Las Vegas.  The grief is overwhelming and it’s at times like these that we see our faith and trust in our fellow man be tested.  Through tragedy, however, we do see the unselfish service of First Responders, Off Duty Officers, and good hearted civilians that risked their own lives to try and save the lives of others.

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

John 15:13

Many who lack faith or begin to question the existence of God usually take these moments to question where is God during such a tragedy?  Senseless tragedy is heartbreaking, but we must also never lose a grip on the facts as they are presented.  You are in charge of your own life, and any actions, good or bad are directly related to your own decisions on how to deal with the challenges before you.  There has been a consistent effort from those that have no belief in God to remove any signs of his existence from our public spaces, schools, etc. and yet they are the very same who question where He is when a tragedy strikes.  Our society is what we make of it, not what God wants it to be.  It’s why were are given the gift of intelligence and have the ability to choose right and wrong.

The truth is, God is right here with you now, and He is right there in the middle of the tragedy in Las Vegas.  He is very present in the hearts and minds of amazing people doing heroic work to address the tragedy that has just occurred.  You can actively ask Him to be present in you right now, or you can choose to ignore Him and set your own course.  A society that chooses to continue to distance itself from God will also be susceptible to the chaos that comes forth when a society without faith and a moral compass have filled the void.  God loves everyone of us and wants us to be close to Him….but that decision is not His, but yours.

Thank you to all those that continue to sacrifice on the front lines everyday, and let’s pray that through tragedy our society will wake up and seek a closer relationship with God.  Bad things will continue to happen, but when God is in your heart, you will possess all you need to handle and address the evil that unfortunately exists throughout the world.  Please pray for comfort and strength in the sea of chaos that currently is happening in Las Vegas.

The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.  Psalm 34:18
