It’s about People

Each day, all over the world, MMI has people working to serve the poor. Many are volunteers, some long term, others who work on a Project Team. These people are there for one reason, to serve, and make an impact and help change lives.

Many people think of ministry as the local church or organization around the corner that provides aid to the poor. Somewhat forgotten may be those that have left their comfort zones to go and serve in areas that are not visible to most. These people are selfless and focused on using their skills and resources for others. What kind of people are willing to make such a sacrifice?

The essential component to anyone in ministry service is the willingness to be flexible and prepared to change when necessary. The environments that we operate in are not like home, the culture, the people, the environment is different. That in no way means its bad, its just different. In many cases, most are surprised when they serve the first time that they find people that are so appreciative and have zero sense of entitlement. There is nothing better than having someone express genuine gratitude for your willingness to help them. It's what motivates us all to work in many cases harder than we ever have to help those we serve.

These people are also amazing individuals who feel they have been called into service. This calling is usually motivated through their faith, but also in their sense of helping the less fortunate. They are not perfect people, but they are pretty special. I get asked quite often about joining the team and try to encourage anyone that is interested to give it a try. There is one guarantee that we can give anyone that joins the team, they will be a different person when they return….in a very good way! If you have considered going on a project team, do it! Just take the plunge and you will find that it is the best thing you have ever done.
