He Is Risen!

Happy Easter!  On this day we celebrate the confirmation of the risen Christ.  Just as He promised, Jesus rose from the dead and commissioned His followers to go and tell the masses so that they too would come to know of God’s love for them.  The greatest gift ever given to humankind.

1 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.
2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb,
3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them.
5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?
6 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:
7 ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ”
8 Then they remembered his words.
– Luke 24:1-8

As we take time to remember this gift, we should also look to Jesus’ teachings to understand what our role as followers of Christ are commissioned to do while living on earth.  The Resurrection is confirmation of our belief in Jesus and is the ultimate reward for believing in Him and following His example.  He has charged each one of us to use the gifts that we have been provided to seek out the poor, the meek, and to bring His love.  This is not optional, but a confirmation of our dedication to Jesus and His word.

We are called to be missional in our use of these gifts.  So what does this mean?  It means that as a follower of Jesus we are to follow His guide, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  You are to follow His guide in every single thing you do everyday, all the time.  So many people feel that going to church, making a donation here and there is all that it takes.  There are people that are suffering and do not know the meaning of His love.  How will they know if we do not reach them?  As we celebrate Jesus sacrifice and Resurrection, let us never forget that His example provided our “owners manual” for how to live our lives while we have the chance.

He has Risen!  He has Risen indeed!
