Getting The Word Out
We had an interesting conversation today with a dear friend who has just become involved in trying to support a non-profit in raising money and support. She made the comment about how hard it was to ask people to donate and support a cause that she believes so strongly. We understand her dilemma as we cannot operate without the financial support of others and the process continues on a daily basis.
It's interesting that many people think of ministries and non-profits as businesses. Yes, we must operate as a business, but the product we sell is the work of volunteers that are giving of themselves to help change and save lives. 90% of Medical Ministry International's Team is volunteer. They raise their own support and work to establish programs that are sustainable to operate. The compensated staff of MMI are also making major sacrifices as they work well below secular compensation, but actually put in even more time on the job because they are passionate about the work being done around the world.
We understand that there are times that people just don't have the ability to volunteer or donate, but you can continue to support the ministry with your prayers. We have to function as a team as the work of MMI is going on 24 hours a day, all over the world. The sun never sets on the work of MMI. That being said, we also have to continue to work to find people willing to donate money and supplies so that our efforts can continue. We currently have staff at the ready to install some amazing programs that can impact thousands of lives, but we are on hold due to funding. It's frustrating, but its the world in which we live.
The next time you hear from us about donating to MMI, or any organization for that matter, please remember that these people are willing to sacrifice their time, money, etc. to do what they are doing and any support you can provide makes a huge impact on their efforts. It's the very nature of non-profits and we can assure you that the work of MMI is all about optimizing every single dollar to impact as many lives as possible. Right now the number is $8 in service for every $1 donated. That is a pretty good return on your investment!
