Faith, Humor, & Love

The challenge of dealing with multiple cultures, political diatribe, and issues related to poverty presents situations that are rarely seen in the western world. Why do you come? What is your agenda? and What is in it for you? are questions that come forth regularly. The truth is, we come for one reason and one reason only…Jesus. Jesus told us to seek out the meek, the poor, the sick, and the mute and give them a voice. He is the reason we do what we do and regardless of the chaos that may come forth, we must never lose sight of this goal.
Over the last decade, we have dedicated our lives to follow Jesus guide and leave our own comfort zones to help those in need. No one could have ever imagined the significance of the obstacles that would continue to be placed in front of our path. These roadblocks came from all directions and sometimes they even came from what we considered our own team. We were not expecting challenges from within our ranks, but you soon realize that the enemy is at the ready to use whatever means necessary to derail your focus. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart, and only those strong in their faith can survive the bumps and bruises along the way.
Many have asked, how do you keep a positive focus during such challenges? The answer is Faith, Humor, and Love. You see, this is God’s work and there is nothing going on here that He is not fully in control. If you think about it, we are just a tool that God is using to do His work and any challenge we are given is being used to sharpen our faith and focus for Him. No this is not easy, and we have found that humor goes a long way in helping to relieve the pressure and not allow the stress to get out of control. Why shouldn’t we be happy? Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice for us so that we can do the work we are doing. Nothing put before us will ever reach that level of stress. Every time we begin to struggle, we just need to look to Jesus and smile. He has this, and we are in His care.
Everything mentioned continues to culminate with Love. Love for those we serve alongside, love for those that try to throw us off our path, and the most visible…love for those we seek to serve. God’s love is perfect. Nothing can happen bad enough to erode this love as long as we continue to place Him first in your life. No, the journey will not be easy, but the ability to endure the challenges along the way is built in through our Faith, Humor, and Love. That puts a smile on any face!
