Building Upon an Amazing Foundation

This week at the National Religious Broadcasting (NRB) Convention I had the pleasure of watching two very dear friends, Al & Margaret Sanders be honored for their over 55 years of service to religious broadcasting. You may have never heard of them, but my guess is that you have been impacted in some way be their commitment to service….

Al & Margaret started a company called Ambassador Advertising that over the years has produced some of the most well known programs within ministry. Examples are Focus on the Family with James Dobson, Joni & Friends with Joni Erickson Tada, etc. Just think about that, two very humble, kind, people who met at the Bible Institute of Los Angeles (BIOLA) and partnered together to change the face of communication about Jesus. You probably would be shocked if you met these legends in Christian Broadcasting as it has never been about them, but about their clients and getting the message out to the Kingdom. I am honored to call them friends.

It is a great reminder of the amazing gifts that God provides each one of us. Margaret is the rock on which their family has flourished. You will still find her at a piano or organ playing some of the most beautiful hymns, etc. when friends, family, or clients visit. The amazing thing about Margaret is that she is in her late eighties, and yet just 6 years ago she was side by side with me journeying through the jungles of Africa. I could barely keep up with her! Time surely takes a toll on us physically, but she is the example of faith walking on this earth. I nicknamed her the “energizer bunny” and her enthusiasm and excitement to serve will always be an inspiration for me.

The Sanders have taught me a great lesson about service for God. He has our back, and expects us to keep our focus and not allow anything thrown in our path to deter us from our goals. Jesus is our guide and He is our foundation. Sure we can have many things occur and knock us off our stride, but He is there to catch us and put us back on the path. It is truly an amazing journey that He has in store for us, and all we have to do is keep our faith and focus and He will light the way. Thank you Al & Margaret! I am sure that God has many more ideas on how to use your precious gifts, but I am blessed that you took the time to share them with me along my journey of service.
