Achievement through Adversity
Over the years, I have been privileged to know some of the most brilliant people who have accomplished amazing things in life and business. Each one represented unique qualities that when studied can provide insight and guidance to how we seek to accomplish our own goals. Over time, I came to realize that the main characteristic consistent among them all was that they accomplished their successes amidst significant adversity.
Adversity is life’s greatest instrument for testing the meddle of any individual or organization. There is no greater feeling than to battle through challenges, obstacles, etc. and come out the other side accomplishing the goals you have established. The reward can be so much more rewarding than taking the easy road. Iron sharpens iron, and a team honed against adversity can embolden themselves to anything thrown in their path.
An important point to make on this subject is that many of these amazing people did things that were not obvious to the outside observer. This is a key point in that some times the public persona does not provide the details related to the actions taken by the individual or organization. Leaders are called to lead and this calling will open them up to criticism from those that lack the knowledge or understanding of all the challenges faced. The stories that were shared by these people related to the challenges they had to tackle were so interesting and also helpful in my development and ability to lead.
The New Year is a great time for us all to set our goals for the year and prepare ourselves to do battle against the obstacles that will be laid in our path. Stay focused, assess your actions often, and never forget to seek God’s wisdom as you make the decisions that will help you achieve your goals. In the end, you will gain much satisfaction from having made the difficult journey.
